Amasya University

Once known as “OXFORD OF ANATOLIA” , Amasya still doesn’t have its own university.

In every city Mustafa KemalAtatürk visited on his way to the independence of the nation is founded a university:
 

• 19th May 1919 - Samsun :
  19 Mayıs University
   

• 23rd July 1919 – Erzurum Congress :
  Atatürk University
   

• 4th September 1919- Sivas Congress :
  Cumhuriyet University
   

• 27th December 1919 – the Representative Committee in Ankara:
  Ankara, Gazi, ODTU and Hacettepe University
   

• 26th August 1922- Great Offensive :
  Kocatepe University
   

• 9th September 1922- Driving the Enemy into the Sea :
  9 Eylül and Ege University
  

Only AMASYA, the city where the Circular, the first spark of the Independence Fire was written and announced the whole world, doesn’t have a place in this list!

In the 75th year of the foundation of the Republic, the fundementals of which were decided in Amasya, the President Süleyman Demirel gave good news about the prospect of establishing 75, Yıl University in Amasya. In the light of this good news, a great deal of contacts were made and the land and areas for the university were immediately selected.

After a long interval, 22.period government released a law in 9th January 2006 in relation to establishing universities in cities such as Düzce, Burdur, Uşak, Rize, Tekirdağ, Erzincan, Aksaray, Giresun, Çorum, Yozgat, Adıyaman, Ordu and Amasya which will be named after the cities they are built in.

After the law has been put into practice, it is expected that the present departments of 19 Mayıs University inside the borders of Amasya will be taken over by Amasya University. 19 Mayıs University has four active units in Amasya. These are Amasya Educational Faculty, Amasya Vocational High School, Amasya Health High School and Merzifon Vocational High School.the number of students in these units are about between 8000 and 9000. There are also faculties, already founded but have not yet registered any students. They are Faculty of Science- Literature, Faculty of Vocational-Technical Education and Faculty of Architecture. In order to register students, 19 Mayıs University is carrying out the necessary preparations.

In the event of establishing a university in Amasya, not only will the young people study the departments they want in their homes, but also this will enhance the economic and cultural life in the city to a great extent.

It is necessary to found a university in Amasya where padishahs,scientists and artists were brought up in the past, so that we can give back its fame as being the OXFORD of Anatolia.

This is the greatest desire and wish of all the people in Amasya!
